What is dieselisation ?

Unimog-S of the type 404 are usually equipped with petrol engines.
The Unimog-S 404.0 uses a 6 cylinder petrol engine type M 130, whereas
the Unimog-S 404.1 is equipped with a 6 cylinder petrol engine of the type M 180.

Petrol engines have certain disadvantages compared with diesel engines, for instance more expensive fuel, a lower torque at higher number of revolution, higher quality of fuel needed, etc.

But for a general purpose vehicle like the Unimog, that can also be used for off road driving,
 a diesel engine has to be preferred.
This is why the replacement of the petrol engine by a diesel engine, called dieselisation, is recommended !
